Fulfill us within the morning together with your unfailing love, that we might sing for pleasure and be glad all our days.

For some months now I’ve been corresponding with a younger man who’s considering deeply about religion. On one event he wrote, “We’re not more than teeny, tiny, infinitesimal blips on the timeline of historical past. Will we matter?”
Moses, Israel’s prophet, would agree: “Our days . . . rapidly go, and we fly away” (Psalm 90:10). The brevity of life can fear us and trigger us to marvel if we matter.
We do. We matter as a result of we’re deeply, eternally cherished by the God who made us. On this poem, Moses prays, “Fulfill us . . . together with your unfailing love” (v. 14). We matter as a result of we matter to God.
